Pope’s Tavern is one of the oldest structures in Florence and has served many purposes throughout the years.  This one time stagecoach, tavern and inn served as a hospital for both Confederate and Union Forces throughout the Civil War.  It is located on what was known as Jackson’s Military Road, and Andrew Jackson himself is said to have stayed there on his way to the Battle of New Orleans.

Today, the museum houses memorabilia and antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as a wealth of local history and pioneer artifacts, including a large collection of Civil War items.

Pope’s Tavern hosts the annual Frontier Day celebration the first full weekend each June.  The event features arts, crafts and dulcimer music.
